NEWBURY ASTRONOMICAL SOCIETY BEGINNERS PROGRAMME 2009 - 2010 We meet every 3rd Wednesday at St. Mary's Church Hall, Greenham. Meetings start at 7:00pm and finish at 9:00pm with observing outside if the sky is clear. 16th September Setting up to observe the sky for the first time 21st October Observing techniques 18th November Different types of telescopes 16th December What to look for in the night sky 20th January Visual observing 17th February Using a webcam with a telescope 17th March Using a DSLR with a telescope 21st April Observing variable stars 19th May Observing the Moon and the Sun June TBA Society outing to Jodrell Bank
The Beginners meetings are specially aimed at people who have little or no knowledge and experience of astronomy. These meetings are very informal and friendly. There are short talks given by local astronomers set at a level than anyone of any age can understand and enjoy. Visitors are encouraged to use a selection of telescopes to view the night sky when it is clear with the help of members. All age groups are welcomed but children under the age of 15 should be accompanied by an adult.

Speakers are normally experts in their field of astronomy but deliver talks that are set at a level that should not be above the head of relative newcomers. Metings are informal and friendly with inputs and news from members about their own area of interest in the second part of the evening. |
